The Story
The "Estrella" Story

In 2004, Muñeca asked up-and-coming music producer and long-time sweetheart, David Simon-Baker to produce her debut album. Intrigued by the songwriting and the creative freedom, they co-committed to the production of their self-produced album and in the process putting together the band that is now known as La Muñeca y Los Muertos.

Album basics were tracked at Laughing Tiger Studios in San Rafael with Pete Hopkins on drums. Laughing Tiger's big lush tracking room gave the tracks the desired warmth. Ryan Scott from The Monophonics captured the trumpet solo in "Star" and added to the horn arrangements along with Anthony Chavez and Nick Lee. Following basics, Ben Krames of Jungle Shack Music complimented the songs with Latin percussion arrangements.

Kristin's bass and other overdubs were tracked at Jerry Harrison's studio, Sausalito Sound with Matt Cohen's recording expertise. At the time of recording, the band was transitioning to have Matt as their new drummer. Vocals and guitar solos were tracked in DSB's home studio at the time, Studio Noche, and then continued later at his new and current San Francisco studio, Mission Bells. The album was mixed on the SSL 4000G+ console at Laughing Tiger Studios and mastered by John Greenham in San Francisco.
